Ellen Heck loves to paint, the painting on the table is one of her paintings, the bird nest is from their avacado grove. Ellen gave Surfside this quilt, basted and backed. Becky Reed hand quilted it and Diane Collins added the binding and label. She asked us to finish it. Ellen admires Becky Reed's hand quilting. Ellen also gave Surfside two landscape quilts. Mary Freedman had them matted and framed. Ellen could not believe how much the mat and frame added to her landscape appliqué. Ellen gave Surfside a winter scene that Mary Freeman also had framed. The back of the frame has documentation of the maker and a photo of Ellen. The framed landscapes are identified with Ellen's photo and information on the backside. Ellen admires her spring and winter landscapes. She says she cannot believe how it looks framed and that she will make more and frame it. Ellen and Kurt Heck. One must admire. The appliqué is finished, but of course the hand quilting takes even more time. When Ellen retired from the Elly Sienkiwicz appliqué Academy after seven years, the students made her a quilt top. Each block is very special. Sharon Schamber machine quilted each block and the border. Sharon spent over 800 hours drawing, marking and machine quilting for Ellen. Ellen donated 10 hand made ceramic tiles made from her designs. Seven are in the opportunity baskets. These three will be a part of the live auction. A close up of her frog design.
